Ceremony marks building start in Preston

A start-on-site ceremony took place to officially mark the start of construction for the new leisure, community and youth facilities in Preston. At the event, the name of the leisure and community centre was revealed by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council Leader, Cllr Victor Broad, as Tadworth Leisure and Community Centre.

Cllr Broad and Cllr David Hodge, Leader of Surrey County Council, along with children from Epsom Downs Primary School and young people from Surrey County Council's youth steering group, then made the ceremonial 'first dig' for the creation of the new swimming pool.

The school children will be following and filming the progress of the build for a school project.

Cllr Broad, said: "I am very pleased to see the building of our new Tadworth Leisure and Community Centre and new youth centre is now underway. It is particularly satisfying, that despite the economic situation, our determination and commitment as a Council will result in a Centre that will contribute to the local economy and to the health and wellbeing of our residents of all ages."
