Developing plans for new Washington Leisure Centre

A new leisure centre will replace the old Washington Leisure Centre. Pellikaan was elected preferred bidder by Sunderland Council for the design & build development of the new centre. A planning application has been submitted to Sunderland City Council and if successful, work will start on site later this year.

The replacement leisure centre will offer a range of facilities including, a six-lane 25m pool and a learner pool with two hydro slides, a four-court sports hall and sauna and steam rooms. In addition, there will be a soft play area, 5-a-side football pitches and an additional multi purpose hall.

In the Sunderland Echo, Councillor John Kelly, the City Council's Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture said: "I think the new Washington Leisure Centre promises to be a fantastic replacement for the current building which is coming to the end of its natural life."

We are looking forward to working with Sunderland Council again, after the successful completion of Sunderland Swimming Pools in Hetton-Le-Hole and Silksworth a few years ago.
