The ground breaking ceremony for the new sports hall at the Sporthalle am Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-College was celebrated last Friday. The design of the sports centre was praised. "Pellikaan has submitted a forward-looking concept for the sports centre" said Klaus Kuhlmann of the organisation for Schools in the area.

County commissioner  Friedel Heuwinkel mentioned the high functionality of the building because of the shared use by school and sports clubs. Mayor Rainer Heller emphasised that this is the reason that the project is not only important for the school and the council, but for local sports clubs, so all people of Detmold can look forward to this building. In addition, he stressed that the architecture enables the "ideal spacial conditions for large sports events".

Representatives of the council, school and sports clubs were present to witness the start of construction by Klaus Kuhlmann und Jan Jansen zu sein.

The centre is built according to the PassivHaus principles and will be opened in February 2012.
