Making a difference in West Bromwich

Building work is nearing completion at the new West Bromwich Leisure Centre in the borough of Sandwell.
On the website of operator Places for People Leisure, this new build is called 'a great example of what can be achieved when the local council has the courage and enthusiasm to make a difference'.

In the article, Councillor Steve Eling, Sandwell's deputy leader, says: “Pools across the UK are closing because they are grossly inefficient and councils cannot afford to maintain them. What we have here is a mixture of facilities, design and procedures that will mean the centre is sustainable for the future.”

Peter Kirkham, Development Director, Places for People Leisure, added: “We are looking forward to working with Sandwell Borough Council and providing state of the art leisure facilities that will appeal to the local residents. The project will be delivered on time and on budget and is another example of high quality cost effective leisure provision.”

Kevin Mills, Strategic Lead Capital Projects and Facilities, Sport England adds: “This project is an impressive example of organisations working together to achieve a great outcome and we hope to share this as a best practice example for local councils.”
