Opening Glass Mill Leisure Centre

The opening of the impressive new Glass Mill Leisure Centre was celebrated last Friday. Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham cut a ribbon to mark the event. The centre has been open to the public for several weeks already, and received many compliments from the guests at the ceremony.

Apart from the speech by the mayor, several local organisations stressed the importance of the new centre for the area. During a festive event with live music from a choir and from a string duet, guests had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the building. They also had the opportunity to use the facilities themselves.

Gerard Pellikaan: "It was exciting to see the building with the site hoarding removed. When you now approach the centre, it is fantastic to see it stand out against the background of the apartment towers. And at the same time, the shape and positioning of the centre completely opens up the adjacent park. Compliments to LA Architects who achieved this effect, but also to Barratt Homes and Lewisham Council, for enabling this spectacular design to be executed.”

With two swimming pools, a fitness suite, dance studios, climbing wall, a health suite with sauna steam and ice room, as well as a crèche, meeting room and café area, the centre offers a host of activities for the people in the area.
