Works underway in Lewisham

Monday, works on site started on the Loampit Vale Leisure Centre. The leisure centre is part of a large development by Barratt Homes, who held a start-up ceremony on site in the presence of the Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock. The Loampit Vale Leisure Centre will include a 25m1 competition pool, a teaching pool, studios, fitness, climbing wall and crèche. It will have 45% reduction in carbon emissions (compared to building regulation requirements) and water recycling. The landmark building was designed as part of a housing development and reflects a commitment to the arts; artist Phil Coy is working with LA Architects to use the façade of the leisure centre to form a unique art installation.

According to Gert-Jan Peeters, director of Pellikaan in the UK, this is a special project for Pellikaan: "as the leisure centre is attached to the main construction works for a major housing project, it is extremely important that we liaise closely with Barratt Homes and with other subcontractors that work on other parts of this development". The new leisure centre will be located at the base of an apartment block. Therefore a large part of the building relies on its structure and on perfect connections between various parts of the development. After thorough preparations, Pellikaan can now start construction works on this interesting scheme.
